Mike and fellow SNP MPs met with campaigners from the charity War Child to receive a petition calling for international aid to be used to help children in war zones, whose lives and education are inevitably disrupted by the chaos and violence around them.
Mike and his colleagues heard first hand from young people who had fled the violence in Sierra Leone and Rwanda.
Commenting Mike said
“We see violence from around the world across our TV screens every night. In each of these conflicts many thousands of children fear for their lives and futures. Thousands have been forcibly enrolled in the various armed factions and many more have had their education destroyed or disrupted.”
“If these countries are to recover then we need to ensure that there are young well educated people to build new institutions and businesses in their own communities. International Aid can do much to help this process and I fully support the aims of the petition.”
